Linguistic Artifacts

SPAN3150-FALL2024

This artifact is an informational pamphlet that I created in Spanish for the Spanish for Health Professionals class. The main goal of the project was to develop educational material about reproductive health that could be understood by most people, especially those without medical knowledge. In the pamphlet, I addressed topics such as sexual education, contraceptive methods, the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, and reproductive rights. The biggest challenge was making the information engaging for adolescents while presenting it clearly and easily. This experience helped me better understand the importance of receiving and applying health-related information, as well as the value of culturally competent communication. In the future, these skills will be essential in my career in public health and healthcare, as they will allow me to communicate clearly, respectfully, and effectively with Spanish-speaking communities and support better health decision-making.

Abstract Lights

LANG3030-FALL2025

This artifact is a Spanish presentation I developed during an internship after expressing my interest in nutrition. I was assigned to research the negative effects of energy drinks on adolescents and to create educational materials for presentation in schools. The purpose of this presentation is to educate young people ages 16 to 18 about how these drinks affect the body and to help prevent future health problems. In the presentation, I explain what energy drinks are, how caffeine and sugar affect energy levels and sleep, and what healthier alternatives exist. This project strengthened my Spanish communication skills, as I had to explain scientific information in simpler language appropriate for adolescents. The biggest challenge was adapting nutrition and public health terminology to a level that was easy to understand without losing the preventive message. This experience increased my confidence in using Spanish in a professional and educational context. In the future, these skills will enable me to work in prevention programs, promote health literacy, and communicate clear, effective messages to young people.
